Daylighting an architectural icon

| OKALUX | Reference

The architect responsible, Karl Schwanzer, would certainly never have imagined that his design for the Austrian pavilion at the 1958 World Exhibition in Brussels would be open to the public over sixty years later as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Vienna. But with its steel skeleton construction and clear forms, he created an architectural icon of post-war modernism that wants to be preserved.

Our light-diffusing insulating glass was already used in the existing building. The capillary plate installed in the space between the panes ensured uniform and shadow-free illumination with daylight deep into the room. To maintain this lighting effect and meet modern building physics requirements, Adolf Krischanitz - one of Schwanzer's students - also relied on us and the OKALUX K with optimized thermal insulation for the renovation. This is how to modernize!
