The project focused on improving the energy performance of a historic section of the building while preserving its architectural character. To enhance energy efficiency and thermal comfort, the building envelope of this section was comprehensively insulated. Particular attention was given to the historic Second Painting Room (Tweede Schilderijenzaal), where the glazing was renewed as part of the refurbishment.
OKALUX+ insulating glass was selected to meet the demanding requirements for daylight management and the protection of valuable artworks. Capillary slabs integrated within the glass cavity scatter daylight evenly and deep into the exhibition spaces, eliminating harsh shadows and creating ideal lighting conditions for sensitive exhibits.
At the same time, the historic appearance of the room remains untouched. From the interior, the modern skylight glazing is almost completely concealed behind the original matte ceiling glazing. The project demonstrates how innovative glass solutions can combine heritage preservation with contemporary energy performance.
