With the Museum of Literature Ireland, Scott Tallon Walker Architects have created an extension that responds sensitively to its heritage setting while establishing a contemporary architectural identity. Light, materiality and transparency become the defining elements of this dialogue.
A defining feature of the design is the vertical façade clad with OKATECH Copper. The expanded copper mesh integrated within the insulating glass creates a layered building envelope that mediates between transparency and enclosure. It filters daylight, balances openness with privacy and lends the façade a refined sense of material depth.
As daylight shifts throughout the day, the character of the façade continually evolves. Transparency, reflection and materiality interact from different viewpoints, giving the building a quiet yet dynamic presence. Inside, filtered natural light creates a warm atmosphere that enhances the quality of the circulation areas. The façade thus becomes a connecting element between the historic fabric and the contemporary intervention, making the dialogue between old and new tangible.
