The new “irides” centre in Basel, designed by Esch Sintzel Architekten, meets this demand with clarity and social intent. Centrally located, the building offers flexible spaces for people with varying care and support needs. Generous daylight and a carefully composed lighting concept shape not only the atmosphere, but also play a crucial role for people with visual impairments – many of whom rely on light, shadow, and contrast for spatial orientation.
As part of the safety concept, FIRESWISS FOAM fire-resistant glass was used. It provides reliable protection against fire and smoke, while effectively shielding against dangerous heat radiation. This ensures that escape routes remain safely passable even in the event of fire. The EI classification stands for maximum protection combined with full visual transparency – without compromising on aesthetics or openness.
