Designed by sop Architekten together with JSK Architekci, the new extension follows the restrained architectural language of the existing terminal while reinterpreting its design principles in a contemporary way. The approximately 360-metre-long pier forms a coherent architectural volume whose expansive glazed façades define the appearance of the new terminal.
For the exterior façades and fixed passenger boarding bridges, BGT Bischoff Glastechnik supplied approximately 7,500 m² of individually configured triple insulating glass units. The glazing compositions were precisely tailored to the specific requirements of each façade zone, combining solar control, thermal insulation, acoustic performance and safety for continuous operation in a highly frequented airport environment.
The glazing package includes acoustically optimised laminated safety glass, heat-soak-tested tempered and heat-strengthened glass, as well as high-performance solar control and low-E coatings achieving U-values of up to 0.5 W/m²K.
The façade concept combines demanding technical performance with a restrained architectural expression defined by transparency and daylight.
