Braunger Wörtz Architekten combine light-coloured rendered surfaces, projecting timber elements and carefully positioned glazing to create a differentiated building envelope.
At the centre of the concept is the “Großer Wiesenfries” by artist Thomas Witzke. Extending over around 150 metres along the ground floor, the artwork is printed directly onto the glass. It references the landscape of the Swabian Alb and explores the relationship between nature and architecture at the threshold between inside and outside. The work takes inspiration from Albrecht Dürer’s 1503 watercolour “The Great Piece of Turf”.
For the artwork, an insulating glass unit combining the two safety glasses SWISSDUREX ESG and SWISSLAMEX VSG was used. The motif itself was applied using COLORPRINT, a digital glass printing technology that enables high-resolution, multi-colour patterns, images and graphics to be printed directly onto glass. The glazing also features a SILVERSTAR EN2plus coating for thermal insulation and energy efficiency.
On the upper floors, additional façade glazing contributes to the architectural expression, while mirrors complement the material concept within the residential areas. These glazing solutions and mirrors were also supplied by Glas Trösch.
